There is great excitement around the Stevenson Carmel campus this year with a renewed focus on 6th-8th grade athletics. Despite this new energy, the same principles that have guided the sports programs at Stevenson for many years are alive and well.
First and foremost is sportsmanship. Sportsmanship has long been the focus of both campuses at Stevenson and it remains the corner stone of the athletic program. This year's athletic program at the Carmel campus looks to build off the strong foundation of sportsmanship that Coach Young and Coach Klevan have so successfully established.
To do that, Carmel campus athletics will pursue two main objectives:
1) Establish winning attitudes.
2) Create opportunities for successes and failures.
The first goal goes without saying: Stevenson is all about the right attitude. A winning attitude, whether a team wins or loses, is what makes Stevenson special. To be successful in this area, all sports teams at the Carmel campus will look to build confidence in each participant as they become part of a team.
The second goal is a bit of a challenge. After all, who wants to experience failure? Failure, while difficult, teaches many lessons. The athletic program at the Carmel campus will look to address the mistakes that create failures in an effort to learn from them. Failure can quickly turn into a success when one can apply the learnings. Enter, Stevenson athletics. All coaches will look to address mistakes (or failures) and recognize achievements (or successes) in an effort to make the most of the athletic experience for all.
A renewed focus at the Carmel campus, perhaps. Old-fashioned values in an attempt to create joyful learning experiences for all participants, most definitely. Come be a part of the athletic program at the Carmel campus. We are creating winning attitudes.
