Practicing in the off season is a great way to get ready for the season. In fact, all athletes should continue to hone their skills before and after the school season.
In this light, the following came across my desk. This is from the tennis coach at the high school via a parent whose daughter works with him. Consider this resource if you are evaluating tennis instruction in the offseason:
Sevan Zenopian owner and founder of the SZ Tennis Academy and the high school boys coach at Stevenson, offers lessons and clinics ([email protected]). After completing his college career at top 50 division 1 ranked Cal Poly SLO as a scholarship athlete, he turned his dedication to his students. His level of dedication to them is unparalleled. In 2003 the USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association) recognized his coaching accomplishments by awarding him with the Independent Pro of the YEAR!
With the college application process becoming more and more selective what better way to differentiate your child then adding high level tennis to their resume. It shows their ability to set and achieve goals while still maintaining grades (Ben Vierra now at Stanford was Valedictorian at Stevesnon in 2013). It will help keep you child focused and motivated both mentally and physically. It will make them more self reliant and accountable, while teaching them the true meaning of sportsmanship and how to deal with both failure and success! Most importantly these skills as well as the game will last them a lifetime!
While I personally cannot vouch for Sevan's work, he comes highly recommended from one of our Pirate parents so by all means consider this as an option to gear up for the tennis season.
